melllllllting...

so. it's hot. that's the news from new england, folks. you know it must be serious when i consider joining the 80+ crowd in boston's emergency cooling centers.

fireworks were fun last night. the beach was cooler, if just as humid. fave moment: when a particularly fun firework (is that how one refers to a single one?) went off and the small child of approximately 8 years near us shouted, "holy lord of the ring!" yeah, um, haha. time with parents was all spent in their one air conditioned room.

sadly, i am feeling sicky. i think it's a combo jet lag/heat blah kind of thing. centered in the tummy region. yuck.

we installed our ac in the study when we got home. thank allah for my power drill, that's all i have to say about that.

we also made a rather major decision since yesterday, rach and i. that is to offer to let judy move in with us for a while. i've known judy since we lived together in senegal and lived with her several times since... she's one of my dearest friends. and she's really not doing well. her back has been in a disastrous state for about a year now and it's only getting worse. my feeling is that it won't get better unless she has someone to really help her... take care of her, shop for her, help her with laundry and any lifting... so, we're going to offer to do those things while she lives in what will someday be our craft room. we'll discuss the possibility with her when we go over to her place tonight. she's just so sad... with how little she can do and how little progress there's been. i love her and i hate seeing her this way.

still, scary to think about the loss of privacy and all... but some things are actually more important i guess.

on another note, i need some new icons.

in a post a few days or so ago, jb_slasher referenced this fic and, seeing as she mentioned that it inspired her peter/casey icon, i was compelled to check it out.

and. um.

geekslash is now all i ever want to read. ok, not really. but... yeah. this goes a long way toward satisfying my need to write/read elijah/peter. it's not e/p, but it's damn close. and. um. what has this person been doing inside my head? i'm almost as freaked out as i am delighted by this. cuz, you know, geeks. and slash. geekslash. more.

happy day off to my fellow americans who have the day off. i'm going to ignore the extra american flags as best i can on the drive over to judy's. am glad we will spend the night being chill... watching a movie. it has been over 2 weeks since i've watched a movie. ::shudder::

and i am delighted not to be on the esplanade for the 4th this year. despite the fact that last year sucked due to crowds and such and this year there is increased security... 5 people have already been rushed to the hospital due to heat-related sickness. ugh. no thanks.
