broke

extraordinary loveliness this morning. after sleeping on a futon in the now air conditioned study, woke to find that it's only in the 80s today. sweet relief. the world feels like a new and better place.

last night we went to judy's, made her dinner, sweat profusely and watched mulholland drive. hmmm. i didn't actually expect it to be that twin peaks-ish. judy had seen it before and gave me the explanation she had read for it... but i'm not entirely satisfied with that. i have to say, though... while i had some issues - particularly with lesbians and the male gaze and laura elena harring's omnipresent excessive make up - all hail david lynch for making a movie you actually have to think about. can't stop thinking about. it's assembled like the first movement of a brahms symphony - hints, suggestions, images, themes that are all essential even if you don't know why. and that return, never exactly the same, and change the way you think about it all. and naomi watts was fucking incredible. yay jet girl!

so today is a home improvement day. much to do, as always. but tomorrow... canoeing on the nashua river. good times.
