grrrow. am all pissed off now. when zarah brought up the concept of "heterophobia," i was slightly uneasy... but she handled it well, putting it in its proper context. taken out of that context... argh! am feeling great rage... breathe... breathe...
most of rage is induced by this comment on the supposedly rampant problem of heterophobia among teens:
It is there, and it does need to be addressed. Despite all the "We've had it sooooo worse!" whining from the more vocal of the GLB community.
rrraaahhhh! whining? WHINING? is she actually trying to imply that in reality, it's just as hard to be straight? ooh. @#^&%(&*^&^%$&^%$!!!!! that's me - trying not to alienate people by calling them mean names. good thing no one can hear what i'm saying aloud. of all the stupid, fucking...
ok, breathe. wow. i just sorta thought my little circle of lj friends was somewhat safe from such blatant ignorance. nope. ok. but don't leave me hanging here! someone tell me you are as appalled as i am.
someone... please?

Just when I'd thought I'd heard it all!
Date: 2002-06-14 04:33 pm (UTC)My RL is rather firmly entrenched in young, urban, professional (did I just say yuppie? *gg*) middle america and while I would venture to say there is considerably less homophobia in this group (or at least my circle of friends) than there used to be say,in my parent's generation, thank god, the concept of "heterophobia" existing on a widespread basis is inconceivable to me.
I've even lived in some very gay-friendly communities, and there, just as anywhere else, anyone who practices an alternative lifestyle of any sort is in for some constant challenges. You put it well, Phineas!
