ok, usually i am not so tOOby as to post such things as 'omg i <3 this song, it is SO perfect for whoosie and whatsit.' however, that's exactly what i'm about to do. mercifully, this here is a very short poem by catullus. upon reading it, i could not help but drift to thoughts of h/d-ness...

i hate and i love.
perhaps you will ask
how that can be possible.
i do not know;
but that is what i feel
and it torments me.

catullus? where'd you learn of the most wonderful catullus and his "odi et amo"?? and yes, yes, so perfect for harry and draco! but meh! love catullus and his filthily erotic verses! ok, i'm getting really excited about latin, but sheesh! yay, catullus. read him in high school, definitely made me think, damn, these romans knew what they were up to. i'm sure catullus has even more gratuitus odes perfectly catering to a h/d pairing. perhaps i'll call in our latin scholar-in-residence,

this is part of a choral piece called, oddly enough, 'i hate and i love.' there are 8 movements, each based on a poem by catullus. the poems and the piece (by dominic argento) are completely amazing. we sang them at bu. i loooove them.

there's one totally heartbreaking one... the music helps to make it so, but the poem is:

you promise me, my dearest life, that this our love
will endure, will be joyous and never-ending.

o great gods, make what she promises be true
and make it come from the bottom of her heart,
so that all our lives we will be able to keep
this sacred vow of eternal love.

(and then in the choral setting, the beginning repeats) you promise me...
