omg i'm about to tear my hair out.

rach has been having a computer problem so i thought i'd try to tackle it while she's at work to be nice. now i want to kill things. rach is the mac user in the house. currently, she cannot open gmail in firefox or safari. it makes like it's loading then says it's done, but the page is completely blank.

we thought maybe it was a gmail problem. but she can open it in explorer. then we thought maybe a firefox problem? but also a safari problem? then today i remembered that the last time it opened right was just before we finished our switch from dsl (wireless) to cable (wireless). so it has to be related to that. and i checked by switching her onto one of the neighborhood's unlocked networks and voila, gmail opened. wtf?

i've tried messing around with some security settings to no avail. this has beaten me. i have no clue. anyone?

ScottXWL's answers look promising. You should be able to do something similar in Firefox. Does Gmail's "Basic HTML mode" work? Does Gmail work when you connect to your router by wire? Don't put too much effort into those questions because they don't necessarily lead to solutions. There is a setting called MTU in the router which is pure black magic. I had an unrelated problem connecting to my last job (some stuff worked poorly, some died immediately), I saw the MTU setting (on the PC), nobody knew what else to do, so I upped it to 1500 and it cured everything. You might get lucky too. If you mess with it, don't forget the old setting!

I just checked yours (WAN setup). It's 1492.

Q1 - down at the bottom of the page:

Gmail view: standard with chat | standard without chat | basic HTML Learn more

MTU worked? [scratches head in bewilderment, again]
