what due south lacks
Mar. 16th, 2007 03:02 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
friends, i need your help.
i love due south. i love the fandom. i love the characters and the fic and the vids and all of it. but it lacks one thing, imo. and that is
jjtaylor.
it has been a very long time since i've been in a fandom without jj. since i 'met' her, i think. and, great as due south is, i think it would be that much greater if she were in it too. yes. because she is smart and think-y and such an amazing writer. i want her in my fandom of choice, all the time, whatever it may be. and so. i think it needs to be my personal mission to get her on in to this fandom, because i can't imagine leaving it any time soon.
so. let's pimp her on in!
the woman is in 50,000 fandoms and has, you know, a life too. so we need to help her see that it's worth it to add yet another fannish love to her lot. please, answer some (or all) of these questions here for
jjtaylor to read. help her see the awesomeness she is missing.

jjtaylor:
1. a thing you love about due south, the show.
2. a thing you love about due south, the fandom.
3. a thing you love about benton fraser.
4. a thing you love about ray kowalski.
5. a thing you love about ray vecchio.
6. a thing you love about diefenbaker.
7. how about a picture or a link or something? an enticing look or touch between characters, a funny clip, a great vid.
1. a thing you love about due south, the show.
i don't usually care about cop shows or crime shows or mysteries... and yet, i love this show. i think, even minus the GAY LOVE, i would enjoy it. because it's got a sense of humor that is both silly and smart. silly and smart. yes. i love that.
2. a thing you love about due south, the fandom.
omg, where to begin? there's so much to love. but one of my favorite things so far has to be the amazing lack of wankiness. i'd have to say it's the least wanky fandom i've ever been in. since hanging around ds, i've seen one minor flare-up of bizarre anti-ray/ray-ness. but it didn't go all that far or cause nearly as much insanity as it would have in another fandom. there's a lot of love here.
3. a thing you love about benton fraser.
i love his repression. :) i mean, i love it for many reasons. it provides so much lovely angst in fic, for one. but it also allows for so many possibilities in his character. he might be incredibly innocent and naive. or maybe he's seen and done more than he would ever let on. there's no way to be sure because of all that he keeps buttoned-up. so... we can read him and write him in so many believable ways. and, again, the ANGST. love it.
4. a thing you love about ray kowalski.
omg, everything. but to pick one... (omg, i've seriously been sitting here trying to pick out one thing for 15 minutes)... ok, i'm picking a tiny detail. i love the way he repeats the last things people say while he ruminates on whatever they've just said. though it's often hard to tell whether he's ruminating or spacing. it's just so frickin CUTE.
5. a thing you love about ray vecchio.
oh , vecchio. i love his love. i mean, you can just tell that that guy loves when he loves, you know what i mean? whether it's fraser or francesca... you can just feel how much he would give and do for them. it makes it impossible for me not to adore him.
6. a thing you love about diefenbaker.
what's not to love? really, what i love most may be that he occasionally prompts fraser to bitchiness. and i love a bitchy fraser.
7. how about a picture or a link or something? an enticing look or touch between characters, a funny clip, a great vid.

i've posted this picture before but i just can't help it. ray. <3! i love this picture of him. and he's looking at fraser like that, of course. lovelovelove.
jjtaylor, darling. i know you're already tempted. i know that you know that you could love this. you already see the greatness of ckr, and that's an important factor. so, what will it take? you say the word, and there will be dvds in the mail toward you. i mean that. until then, i hope folks will help me entice you. i miss sharing fannish insanity with you. ♥ ♥ ♥

Date: 2007-03-24 12:57 am (UTC)1. Neither my library nor libraries in the greater borrowing area will loan out copies of the DVDs.
2. I can't tell if I'm supposed to start at season 3, where CKR seems to appear, or whether it's best to start at the beginning.
2b. I'm baffled by the fact that there are two Rays, especially since I'm not sure who Ray is and who Fraser is just yet.
3. The work-school combo is nuts right now, but I always manage to fit in fun tv-show watching, so I think it's a matter of just starting watching and then I'll inevitably get hooked.

Date: 2007-03-24 03:45 am (UTC)1. i will seriously lend you my dvds through the mail. if you're interested. there was a place i knew where you could dl all the eps but it just recently went offline. so, yeah... mail. i would do it.
2. yes, well. that's really up to you. i, personally, think that starting with 3 is the way to go. it's what i did. i watched 3 and 4 and then went back for 1 and 2. you'll need some backstory for that to make sense, but hey, that's what i'm here for. :)
and yes, ckr appears in season 3.
2b. the bafflement is understandable. it's like this: fraser (http://www.paulgross.com/images/mountiedog1.jpg) the mountie from the far north of canada (and his deaf half-wolf diefenbaker) tracks the killers of his father to chicago. there he meets ray vecchio (http://cicero.sockiipress.org/duel01.jpg), the cop working on the case. they become sort of unofficial cop partners while fraser works at the canadian consulate in chicago. after two years (and a lengthy hiatus for the show), fraser takes a little vacation up north and when he returns, he finds that ray vecchio suddenly looks like callum keith rennie. fraser is confused. over the course of the first ep of season three, it becomes clear that he is actually ray kowalski (http://pics.livejournal.com/phineasjones/pic/0006x51b), but for reasons you'll understand when you watch, everyone will be calling him ray vecchio.
3. i know these things about you. :) i figure, you're watching fun tv anyway, why not throw due south in the mix?
♥!
