we went shopping in stapleton yesterday. stapleton is, imo, freakishly weird. it was once the airport for denver. and is now becoming a city. they're just... building a city. houses, schools, streets, parks and, of course, mega mall upon mega mall. we were trying to get out of one such mega mall when we dead ended here. there were just piles of dirt on the other side of the sign. and one gigantic moon. and one of these days, i'll get off my ass and figure out how to take less blurry pictures in low light.

the shopping yesterday was mostly in preparation for miami. rach needed a bathing suit. i needed some capris. we are going to be staying mere blocks from miami beach. this is so strange. and exciting.

oh! and i need to be printing out fic for the airplane ride. i'm thinking some long f/k. any suggestions?

My longtime favourite F/Ks for comfort-rereading are "Chicago's Most Wanted" and "Eight Sessions" by Speranza, "The Course" by Bone & Aristide, "Blueprint" by Journey, "Academic Punk" by the hoyden, and "The Teeth of the Hydra" and "A Modest Proposal" by Resonant. Which seems like a kind of random selection since those aren't exactly my top favourite stories, or necessarily my top favourite long ones; it might have to do with how uniquely memorable they are or how familiar more than anything else, I guess...

tripod. In this case, resting the camera on the car roof might have helped. Flash - where your subject is within about 15 feet and you can tolerte the obtrusiveness. Flash makes focus less critical (tech term: depth-of-field), it "stops" motion, and it corrects the bad color that incandescent lights give you. Two second self timer - you push and release the shutter button, and then you have two seconds to steady yourself before the picture is actually taken. Remember that in low light, the camera sometimes takes a long time to finish the exposure, maybe > 1 second. Keep the camera steady until it's done, and it may not tell you when that is. My camera has an icon and flashing light to tell me when to hold the camera extra steady - yours may too.
