a couple lj business-y thing i want to take care of. and they require some input.

1. i am going to be going to a default friends lock soon. it makes me rather sad to do it but i think, with school starting... where i will be a TA and all... it just makes sense. i plan to keep fic posts open. i once had bookmarked a link to whatever it is that lets you flock all of your archive in one go, but that was two computers ago. can anyone hook me up?

2. is there anyone who has friended me who i have not friended back who would like to be friended back so s/he can keep reading? leave a comment.

3. this is the difficult one. i cannot possibly read my entire flist while in school. it's just not feasible. so. i see my options are filter or trim. if i filter, there is the possibility that i will occasionally read the people i filter out. but i don't want to be dishonest. if people expect that by my having them friended, we are in a reciprocal-ish relationship where i read them and they read me... well, that just may not be the case. but i imagine that some people care a lot about this. i would like to know. so, answer this question, would you? (and the fun question too bc the poll was too boring.)

4. i just don't know what life will be like from here on out. i imagine, though, that i will have a good deal less time for fannishness than in the past. wah. i started this journal a few weeks before i graduated from my masters program. so have never been in school with an lj. my point is that if the mundane details of my real life stuff bore you... you might want to bail. and i will understand. truly. so, it's up to each of you, of course. but don't worry about my feelings. i'll be fine. :)

As to whole friends thing, here's my position: I pretty much <3 you regardless of fandom (as a matter of fact, I think our fandom interests have generally diverged barring LotR and Firefly). For quite a while I've been more interested in your life than your fandoms (which is a good thing, I think), but I understand if you're culling.

I would like to keep reading, though, and hopefully see you again at some point. :)

thing is, if i were to 'cull' you, because of the flock, you couldn't keep reading. not that i intend to cull you. it's just funny that some people have said they would prefer to be unfriended but would like to keep reading. i guess i didn't make it very clear that that option wouldn't work out so well. hee.

Nah, I think they're just conflicted - they want to make it clear that they read you and are interested in real life you, but also maybe think that, if it came down to it, they'd rather be dropped full stop than wonder why you'd stopped commenting.

good luck, and do what you need to in order to keep yourself sane and focused. real life is the most important thing, and yes, it will take immense amounts of time. LJ will be here when you have time and need it (and it can be a good stress reliever to just read some fic or peruse tales of others' wacky lives, if you are able to treat it that way and let go any sort of bigger expectations for yourself around it). anyone who gets weird about you needing to focus on school doesn't deserve your attention anyway. :-)

Re: filtering - I think you should do whatever is easiest for you. This is yet another example of why I wish LJ had separated the "reading other LJs" and "giving access to my LJ" functions of the friends list.

I didn't pick either poll answer because my feeling is that if I'm filtered out, that's fine, but I would like to know. But it's really your decision - what you feel comfortable with!

Just to let you know, I friended/was friended back during the text-message fic times. And I enjoy reading your journal (even without fannishness) but I think this is maybe the third time I've ever posted a comment.

That being said, if you filter/defriend me, I won't take it personally. But I would like to read your adventures in TA-ing and such if you keep me on.

much more interested in your life than the fannish stuff, totally non-savvy about lj in the first place and probably won't be posting much on this one. i will so not be affected one way or another if you "un-friend" me. gah what a horrible term! at my job in maine, if a client wasn't going on to college or had a plan to do so, we "terminated" her in august. um, as long as there's no de-friending ceremony. yeah. so take me off the list if it would help. i won't mind. actually i probably wouldn't even notice. i'd still <3 you and read your lj every once in a while. :)

I know i feel kinda disconnected from the valley_slash posse and have repeatedly considered deleting the people i don't feel i have anything in common with -- esp. since i suspect none of them read me anyhow. But then, i'm an information whore, so i so rarely delete people -- figuring it's easy enough to just skim over entries. So i can't decide.

well, if there ever were such a posse, it's dispersed now. in many, many ways. geography being one of them. i've just been thinking about handing off the community, since i'm not a valley-ite anymore and never did anything with it beyond that first gathering.

I make an effort not to look at my LJ info... my own philosophy is that people can come and go into and out of my journal as they please, and they don't have to tell me one way or another :)

It seems like - for real - if you're going to start flocking (hee! bc 'flock' ius a real word! sheep!), you should filter instead of trimming, bc if you trim, the culled folks won't be able to read you. So your Point 3 has bearing on your Point 2. I think filtering is the way to go (says the girl who never ever filters ever.).

Do what you need to do, darling, I think we all understand how things go. I don't filter, but I do skim an awful lot. I want to keep reading, though, and at least maintain the illusion you'll still be paying attention to me. ;) After all, there is a shortage of people linking DiR fic!
