right, so i forgot to update y'all on my blue hair adventures. the results are somewhat disappointing, i'm sorry to say. if i were standing outside in the sun, you'd say, omg! you're hair is blue!!!. if i were standing in some direct indoor lighting, you'd say, hey, wow, is your hair highlighted blue?. if i were in a well lit room, not under direct light, you might think you're eyes were going funny and squint at me to figure out whether there was really a blue sheen to some of my hair or not. and if the room were a little dark, you wouldn't notice a thing.

which is... fine. but not what i was going for. the good news is that now i know how to get what i was going for. and i'll give it a shot in about a month, when my hair hasn't gone the the dye-bleach-dye-dye-dye process quite so recently. what would it take, you ask? the streaks would have to be bleached to white* (no easy feat with my dark, dark brown hair) and then dyed blue with a specific brand of dye**.

rach is off to nyc this weekend with her friend C. so i am left alone to enjoy our lovely, clean apartment. i'm rather excited for a weekend of relative downtime. there's plenty i need to be doing but at least no major, scheduled events to get in the way of me doing those things. and it's lovely and sunny out. ::happy sigh::

*katie previously told me that bleaching to white was a mistake because you need to leave some pigment in your hair for the new color to cling to. but when she called manic panic to say wtf? they told her that the blue dye had combined with the yellow in my hair to make green. hmph.

**i was going to link the brand but i can't find it anywhere and i don't know how to spell it. katie said the name and it's something like pirvana. and it's soooooo much better than manic panic. the shade of blue is gorgeous and she put it right over the streaks that had been manic-panic'ed and it made them a perfectly beautiful (if subtle) shade of blue. clearly, it is a superior product.

Ooh, I know exactly the shade of blue you are talking about, and yes, you basically have to bleach your hair to a crisp to get it - my friend did all her hair purple when we left school (she's Asian so bleaching her hair to any kind of non-black shade was kind of traumatic and required several tries, as far as I remember) and even now, two years later, the ends of her hair are blonde rather than black where the dye has washed out but the hair is still bleached. But she looked fabulous while it was purple! It's totally worth it.

*examines own blonde roots, resolves to re-henna this week*

i think it would be worth it too. and i've always got some kind of color in my hair, so i'm not terribly worried about bleaching pieces of it. i'll just die it all black or brown again when i have to look respectable for school.

manic panic blue always turned olive green in my hair. just not at first. it was after a few days. very frustrating. I have yet to find any brand that will stay blue in my hair. others i tried just wash out or barely give a highlight. =( problem for me is i can't bleach my hair. Don't know why- its genetics or something. only colour i can get to stay in is a plum or violet colour, which is ok, but blue's my favourite.

well, this brand that i have in is definitely better than manic panic etc. the blue is defintely blue and so far it's still in. it wouldn't be terribly dramatic over dark hair, but i think you'd still see it. good stuff.

Is it some sort of Illyria look you are going for, 'cause if so, that's so cool!

that hadn't occurred to me. and not exactly, but in my mind it was closer to illyria than to what i have now.
