you guys are amazing. i have so much music now - from you and from the 20 cds i borrowed from
powerfulkatrina last nigh. she is an 80s music fiend.
and how exciting will it be to put all this on my new, blue ipod mini (!!!)? very. the ipod (which needs a name) was a birthday gift from my parents. it's so very pretty. they took me and rach and
hominidj and
madmadharri and
powerfulkatrina and claire out to dinner last night and it was quite a lovely time.
today also had elements of loveliness as my mom and E ran an entirely vegan coffee hour at church with amazingly yummy carrot cake in my honor.
but today has been a very hard day too. just before pre-service rehearsal, i - and the rest of the choir - found out that one of the choir members died last night. she wasn't old but she had cancer and had been sick for a while. still, it was a complete shock. just a month or so ago, she had made a triumphant return to church - people stood and applauded when she walked in the door - after several surgeries. she was thinner and walking with a cane but she was well enough to come back to a few choir rehearsals and... i don't know. i don't know that it could ever not be a shock. and it's just... i know very well that bad things happen to good people all the time but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with in the moment. helen was such a wonderful person and she had a husband and two daughters who were flying home to see her and didn't make it in time. my heart hurts for them.

Date: 2005-03-21 03:36 pm (UTC)On a completely unrelated note, do you still need those CDs from me? It seems like most of what I have has already been provided to you, but I'm certainly happy to lend you anything you still need. Let me know; I'm home all day, so I can drop them by your house whenever. I'll be heading out later to the Salvation Army anyway to see what I can dig up for your party.
Oh yeah, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
