i poked around at [livejournal.com profile] hp_journos this morning, after hearing about it for the first time yesterday. i am tempted to rant a little. but i'm not sure that would be productive. i'm flattered to be on anyone's list of good fic, and happy to see some friends on there too. but... maybe i'll just sum it up by saying that [livejournal.com profile] musesfool is not represented in the sirius/remus category. which is a perfect demonstration of how narrow and pointless these things are. and... well. i'm just not sure why you'd want to do something like that. it's all so random and happenstance. not that some of the fics there aren't great, but the best of the best fics and art in Harry Potter fandom on LJ in 2004? who could presume to be that thorough? it's just not realistic. and it makes some people feel crappy.

today will be a fannish day of a different sort. you may not know that i am - or have been - a great gilmore girls fan. since i started having choir rehearsals on tuesday nights, i haven't been able to watch new episodes. but my girl does. and she keeps me informed. and she has become quite the hardcore fan. and so today rachael, her friend amanda and i will be making a wee pilgrimage to one of the towns where exterior scenes are shot and the town that was the original inspiration for the show. both in connecticut. maybe i'll dress in tight jeans and heels, brush out my hair and carry a funky purse in lorelai's honor. ooh! maybe there will be a scruffily attractive, grumpy but good-hearted diner owner to pour me some coffee. you think?

I think what you said about [livejournal.com profile] hp_journos sums my thoughts about it up nicely too. Did the blurb actually refer to the nominations as "the best of the best..."? *raises eyebrow* Interesting choice of words they used, if so.

yeah, it did call them that. ::shakes head:: whatever, i'm sure some people are having a good time with it, right? as long as we all hold on to our senses of perspective.

Heh. Thanks.

I haven't dragged out my usual rant on awards because it'd look like sour grapes, but yeah, giving awards for artistic endeavors is sticky at best, so I try to steer clear of them.

Have fun in "Stars Hollow." If you meet a grumpy yet hot diner owner, send him my way. I want a Luke of my own. *g*

dude. YOU HAVE TO STEAL A BAG OF CORN STARCH FROM THE LOCAL GROCERY. *giggles*

You're not kidding about the journo thingies. polls like that always have the most bizarre results. in this case i've barely heard of half the writers and haven't read a single one of the fics. wow. i'd say i'd better get busy catching up on them, but then--i'm afraid i might hate them if i did.

Its seems like its half a matter of the tastes of a very very very small fraction of the fandom (which is fine, this is the best to them, their group whatever, but not represenative of the fandom) and second, I think that for some (not all) nominees/votes, its a matter of self-promotion.

I visitted the comm several times when it first started, and maybe I'm particularily stupid, but I found it very confusing. I was very early going to nominate something but couldn't quite figure out how I was supposed to, where it was supposed to go. And if its watched by only 100-somethign people, how good of a vote can you really get? I just gave up.
