my open tabs of fic to read are legion but [livejournal.com profile] jjatylor just made a rec that jumped to the front of the line because it's a story that uses the same frances conford poem as all souls' day. and oh. my. god. upon reading the rec, i had a ridiculous moment of hey, mine but i'm glad i got over that quickly because the story is so intensely beautiful and sad and makes my chest ache like it's about to burst open.

it's a short story but so much is said. generations of story are told in simple, lovely yet devastating phrases. strange or older by [livejournal.com profile] jabez_fics. snape pov, harry/ron, reference to sirius/remus. but don't let any of that make your decision to read or not, just read it.

Isn't it an amazing story? In my comment, I asked if he knew your story, because that's how I knew the poem, and, well, it seemed like an unconscious echo. But apparently the Remus/Sirius is just inherent in the poem because it inspires everyone to think of them.

But, OMG, Harry/Ron and Remus/Sirius? And Snape! I can't take it.

i've told you, haven't i, that i didn't choose that poem? i wish i could take credit. but no, it was my assignment for the challenge. the funny thing, to me, is that they claim it was a random assignment of pairings and quotes. as in, we have such and such requested pairings and this big collection of quotes, now we will parse them out blindly.

i so do not believe that's what happened in this case. the matching up of that quote with sirius/remus could not have been coincidental.
