so. i spent my morning procrastinating. like, hard core. making myself miserable for no particular reason. then rach came home from class and, bless her, made me do the things i needed to do most. hence the fixed car. and the therapy appointment tomorrow afternoon. there are more things, of course - there always are, but i feel a great relief about those two.
i was contemplating what adult ron would look like earlier and suddenly, all i could see was eric stolz. not a bad thing. mmm. so now i have this picture of a younger eric stolz-as-ron with dominic. not a bad picture, i'll tell you.
i love my mechanic because he lets me watch what he's doing and explains things as he goes. he doesn't assume i know what he's talking about but he doesn't treat me like i'm a moron either. i appreciate this.
part of my procrastination this morning was to watch awakening. that has got to be the single most evil angel episode ever. it made me want to stab things. and people. writers, mostly. cruel, so cruel.
i crocheted a scarf this weekend. it is approximately 3-4 inches wide and 12 feet long. crocheting is the fastest thing ever. and i love my groovy, impractically long scarf. it will go very well with the remus coat. eee!
the next dom/ron scene involves some action. not very much, i don't think, but some. i will chant my mantra: it doesn't have to be good, it doesn't have to be good.

resonant8 must be read. holy shit, the hotness. i want her to give a smut-writing class. i would pay money. but yes, there's one harry/ron and two harry/snapes and they're all fucking fantastic.

We eliminated the fuel pump; I was on the right track with questions about rain, the battery may not have been necessary but you'd be nuts to go into this winter with your old one due to its age. Make sure you do the timing belt if it's due or near due. Be explicit on that one.
Re: mechanic
Date: 2004-10-04 05:36 pm (UTC)well, the battery he tested after he'd replaced the other things. and the tester thingy said "battery is bad." so i said, yeah, replace it. i mentioned the timing belt and he said he wouldn't normally check that til the 105,000 mile. so... i don't know. but he's also still got to replace the distributor cables - he showed me how they're worn down. he ordered them and will do that next week too.
Re: mechanic
Date: 2004-10-04 07:03 pm (UTC)Belt: figure out just when that magic number will come up, then factor in the amount of time (miles) it will take you to getting around to acting on it, and how you're paying for it. If you keep the car for 250k miles, you'll replace that belt twice at the 105k mile interval. If you do it every 90k miles, it's still only twice. When you get to 250k miles, you can switch to the 105k interval and you still won't have to do it for another 35k miles.
I have no personal experience with timing belts. I was under the impression that when the milage number came due, you just replace it rather than check it. If you check it and it's good, how long til you check it again? The consequences can be dire if you get it wrong.
