nothing like the ice storm to pick you up at the end of a long day. who's idea was that anyway? oh yeah, mine. bc, ya know, depressing as hell but... lij. tobey. yeah. rach kept trying to insist that the movie is really funny as well as tragic. um, yeah, it has it's witty moments, and there's the whole whipping the rose bush thing, but funny?

much to zarah5's disappointment, i can now legally drive my car. phew. also in productivity news - i bought pants i can wear to the interview, washed a lot of dishes, e-mailed the minister (note how many letters that word has in common with monster) from my present job and got a hair cut. someday i will rant about hair dressers. not now. maybe i have finally decided that only people with curly hair are allowed to cut my hair. the straights just don't seem to get it.

siena is a basket case. i am so not used to this, i don't know what to do. i'm usually the basket case... the one who gets paralyzed by the overwhemlingness of situations. she's the one who breaks a grand idea into little, achievable tasks and completes them, one by one, until she is doing something incredible like living in italy for two years. but suddenly she's back here and needs an apartment and a job and burst into tears on my couch. poor siena. we tried to be helpful, but the girl is in serious shock - cultural, i guess.

in addition to bach, i love and adore benjamin britten. just wanted you all to know. i'm singing about the god loving cat, jeoffry.

Loooong, slow movies.

Just wanted to chime in here with my appreciation of Ice Storm, which is a fantastic movie. I recently fell in love with this genre of long, slow movies that take their time getting where they are going. (The Sweet Hereafter, Hard Eight, Magnolia, Boogie Nights to some extent, The Princess And The Warrior, Winter Sleepers.)

Ang Lee, the director of Ice Storm, is currently filming The Hulk. Wierd.

of those, i have only seen magnolia and boogie nights - both of which i thought were incredible.
yeah, the ice storm really is incredible... i had seen it before (and been devastated by it before). in one way, it was a great movie to watch last night as it was disgustingly hot in our house but i felt several degrees cooler after watching it.

yeah, i'm just gonna sit back and watch lee flit from genre to genre... leaving his little bits of genius as he goes. very tricky, these things that are going on lately... i probably wouldn't have seen spider man were it not for tobey... and lee will lure me in to see the hulk. a good trend in general, i would say.

Yeah, I really appreciate directors that don't keep doing the same things over and over. Ang Lee is a good example. I can't wait to see what he does with The Hulk.
