why do so many americans pronounce depardieu "daypardoo"?

are tlc and bbc america, like, the same channel?

I suspect that most Americans don't pronounce it at all, myself included. I looked it up on dictionary.com and couldn't find it. I asked Babelfish to translate it from French to English and it came back with depardieu. So I'll guess: godless?

um. as in gerard depardieu. he's an actor, french, but he's been in a lot of american movies too. a big ugly oaf but i think he's probably the most famous french actor here aux etats-unis.
