yesterday, at siena's mother's house in belchertown, we went out onto her new screen porch and stood there, enjoying the breeze. the sounds the air made in the trees in the woods around their house... it reminded me of every summer of my life. kinhaven, new hampshire, camping... you can even hear that sound in the suburbs - through the window on a breezy summer night. but you don't hear it here, in the city. i didn't notice until yesterday. it's such a happy sound.

i love western massachusetts. i love the frickin corn fields and the tiny cities and all the green-ness. and i love my friends who live there. siena and i just hung out in noho. we had a lovely lunch, walked around, window shopped, looked at photographs of when i was in siena - hers and mine. she's a heck of a photographer. she has one shot of my face, very close up - i'm wearing sunglasses and you can see the duomo in florence perfectly reflected in them. i dropped her back off at her house and met her cute italian visitors. nice old ladies.

then i went over to scottxwl, hominidj and harrimad_sol's place. where more good times ensued. we cooked a lovely dinner together (all in line with sarah's vision, i hope) while listening to michael jackson tunes. can't say i've done that in quite a while. and then watched three thoughtfully selected episodes of buffy. highly entertaining. though, if i do get into watching this show regularly, i think i might have to drive out to western mass weekly in order to do so... bc it seems like the sort of thing it's much more fun to do with enthusiastic company. though... judy! oh yeah, judy's a fan. oh, that's a delightful thought.

so, i couldn't get through to rach and ended up driving home rather late. turns out she knew the line wasn't working but couldn't figure out why. i don't know why either but i fixed it after about 30 seconds of investigation - just had to unplug the imac from the phone jack. can't really think why that didn't occur to her... ah well. i think i'll just have to go back to noho next week. ?

it was a day with many highlights... one of them being siena asking me over lunch, 'is there public radio slash?'
bwahahahahaha! so then we had a fun discussion about whom we would slash from our favorite npr shows... couldn't really come up with a suitable pairing for ira glass... any suggestions?

and really the biggest other highlight was just being with my three noho friends. their house just has such a great atmosphere. i would take a mushy happy couple over a bickery not-so-in-love couple any day. i think sarah is fantastic... a force for good in their lives... yup. and, there was the seeing scott in the flesh after all this on-line communication. also good... though it's really easy to fall back on old patterns of shyness, i find... but i knew that from my long-standing experience with said shyness.

how did this post get so long? i do something with my day and suddenly i have stuff to write about? i need to read some fic now... i experienced some minor withdrawal yesterday... i wish i could find some good h/d...
