happy mummy's day!

so. yesterday we saw four apartments. apartment A was ok. but just ok. the kitchen was tiny and had an electric stove and... the place wasn't very well kept up (which makes sense - we've figured out who the noho slumlord is and she was the landlord). After we looked at it, we wandered into town, got a smoothie and a muffin at haymarket and sat outside in the sun. noho was like a caricature of itself - people everywhere, a little mother's day poetry reading a block away, people wandering around with guitars... did i mention the people? and the sun? anyway, we sat and read the classifieds and saw there was an open house in florence and decided to go, even though florence is farther out than we really want to be. so that was apartment B and it was totally, amazingly, stunningly beautiful. it was huge. 3 good sized bedrooms. the main bedroom had windows that look out onto the back garden - which was crazy overflowing with flowers and trellises and little walkways. gorgeous. and it had a window seat. and three closets. everything was well kept. there was a dishwasher (::wants::). a screened in front porch and a little side porch off the kitchen. the landlord was really nice. but. it's at the outer end of our price range and it's in florence. not walking distance to anything. not what we're looking for. ::heartbreak::
after that, apartment C was a joke. it was a bit of a joke anyway bc i knew it was the apartment above the one where i used to live - one of the slumlord's properties. when i lived there, the people in this apartment were the spawn of satan - they were extremely loud allllll the time. played music, played drums, stomped around and shouted. i had to leave the apartment some nights just to get some sleep - bc when i asked them to turn their music down, they'd turn it up. oh, it's not true that they were loud all the time. there was one day that erica was practicing viola da gamba in my room around 4 in the afternoon and they stomped on the floor and said they were trying to sleep. ... anyway, now at least i have the satisfaction of knowing they were living in squalor. that apartment was disgusting and there's no two ways about it. apartment D was just small, boring and carpeted. the best thing about it, imo, is that the building was backed up to the cemetery and i could entertain buffy fantasies when i went outside.
yeah. so, not the most successful apartment searching day. but after that, we met up with rach's mum (after bumping into
harrimad_sol!) and bought her a mother's day lunch and then meandered around with her. we showed her rach's friend's apartment that we still have a chance at and it made me feel better to remember that i would really like that place - so at least i have a place to hope for.
when the mum left, we went over to
harrimad_sol and
scottxwl's house and were greeted by them being all cute and bouncy. we sat around and chatted and then got us some take out and watched us some trading spaces. and then we drove home. :( one of these days.... in the not too far distant future... we won't have to do the 2 hour drive home from there!!! we may not have to drive at all!!! that would be very nice. very very nice. i would like to be spending some more time with those lovely folks. (btw, scott? did we underpay for our food? we were wondering about that on the way home - let us know, k?)
next up: church. and then to mummy's house for mummy's day. i seem to have suggested that we cook for them but i have yet to make a plan. hmm.
thinking about
annelarissa out there driving like a mad woman. i still hold that, as long as the drive goes safely, the verdi is totally worth a day of exhausted craziness.
oh, and fun thing about the drive home: the convenience store at the rest stop on the pike where we stopped was playing once more with feeling. *g*
