i've just realized my calling! choral conductor carpenter minister! because i could write a kickass easter sermon. um, for the UUs, that is. i was just sitting here, thinking about how i usually enjoy easter sermons, looking at the notes i scribbled when the minister told me what she'd be talking about - 'random redemption, ice cream truck, job [bible job, not work job], unexpected renewal.'
and then i was thinking that a really good easter sermon - or actually, a sermon about redemption/renewal, it wouldn't have to be easter - would call on all my geeky loves. really. lotr. harry potter. buffy. i think you could even get some smallville in there - what's going on with lex looking like the opposite of redemption. buffy would be the best - there's just so much to work with. i suspect, by the end of the hp books, that will be a great one too - it's just leaning in that direction now. but the whole idea of choosing to be redeemed... working for it.... or once you choose to be, are you immediately redeemed? like, is spike redeemed by his soul or the fact that he went to seek it? and is he redeemed? is faith? 'confidentially, a lot of her people are murderers.' and how perfect is it that now they come up against a pseudo (former) christian who calls them all dirty. when i think about that show as a whole, i think redemption is the theme that stands out the most. oh, and i could write about harry/draco slash. and the idea of harry redeeming draco by various means... and the stories in which that scheme brilliantly reversed.
maybe i should write camilla a birthday sermon... :)
