oh yeah, and i was going to say. i finally finished re-reading a swiftly tilting planet last night. ... i will always love that book because of the way i loved it once. but perhaps re-reading it now wasn't such a good idea. it's a phenomenally awful book. like, so bad it hurts. deeply. i mean, her writing is awful. everything is super cheezy and unbelievable.

but even if we just take that as it is... the premise of the book is pretty terrible. i don't know why it once appealed to me. this concept that genetics predetermine everything... a person's personality and destiny. what a load of crap. how did she get away with that in the middle of happy-lovey series? it seems especially bad in light of lotr and harry potter - and even buffy - where the message is so clearly that it's what you choose, what you do that makes you who you are. and that's such a powerful thought. and here's madeleine telling kids that, sorry, if your parents - even your ancient ancestors - were bad people, you will be too.

don't know why i'm posting this here and not at [livejournal.com profile] swiftlytilting... i guess i didn't start that community to badmouth the books. and you know... i still really want to write sandy/dennys slash that takes place during this book. the twins were up all night too, after all.
