well, just as i had started down that well-traveled road to despair... two things showed up in my inbox that turned me back...

an e-mail from a choir member to the organist and me ...
I just want to thank you both for all the extra time you are giving to rehearsals. I know that you don't get paid for those extra rehearsals or for the extra prep and practice time. Your devotion and dedication are so special and very admirable.

Thank you both for all that you do to bring the music program of [our church] to the high level that we have come to expect. Your contributions and talent cannot be measured, but they can certainly be lauded.

unfortunately, that e-mail, in all it's 'thanks for doing all this work without getting paid for it' sweetness, still contains the reminder that, right, i'm not getting paid. i'm kind of freaking out right now. as i probably should be.
