this bastian/atreyu story that [livejournal.com profile] someidiothasice found is totally bizarre. oddly enough, it takes place at bu. it had an interesting beginning - despite an inaccurate portrayal of bu campus geography (really, you can't be standing outside marsh chapel and just toss something into the charles - hello, storrow drive!). i was pulled in. and then. it kind of went, hi, i'm atreyu. remember me? let's have sex. lost me there.

but i think there's some cosmic force trying to get me to watch/read the neverending story again. it came up in a recent conversation with rach and judy - neither of whom have an appropriate level of love for the movie and i feel something must be done about that. and then, ice brings it up last night. and then, as i'm reading that story, rach is listening to last week's (?) this american life on her computer and the song they played at the end was... you guessed it, the never ending story. yup. it's cosmic. wanna come watch, [livejournal.com profile] camillafarfalla? not tonight though, tonight i have to convert talk to uu kids about the gayness.

Heh. That was pretty much my reaction too. But I did like the idea of Bastian being the Steward of Fantasia.

yeah, i thought they could have done more with that element. it was rather bizarre and farfetched that a little sex cured him of his issues. and really, unmotivted sex is rather boring.

Oh, and the dialogue was pretty awful, too.

yup, that too. and the whole messed up bu geography - i mean, why bother being specific if you do it wrong?

that said, the idea of an obsessive-compulsive catholic collegiate bastian was enticing at first. (movie canon-wise anyway, in the book, he killed atreyu as i recall... it's been a while)
