my goodness. so i'm supposed to go from seeing CoS last night to heading out west for dvd viewing? fantastic. major kudos to whoever came up with the general concept for this weekend.

wish the weather weren't so yucky for the drive though. alas. at least i will have company.

so. i have more thoughts to share on CoS. they are not all very positive, though some are. there will also be some spoilers. so, if you don't want criticism... don't read

i think i need to kneel by my bed every night for the next year and pray. two prayers. one, a prayer of thanks to whomever is responsible for chris columbus not directing the next movie. the other, to alfonso cuaron that he do a better job of it. i enjoyed this movie like the first one - because it's fun to see illustrations of a book. it's nice to look at. the actors are great. but it's badly written and directed and that's all there is for it. there is no narrative pull from one scene to the next. and most scenes fall flat. there are awkward pauses where there needn't be. (ex - 'filthy little mudblood!' beat beat beat 'eat slugs!') so, yes, i pray that a new director will solve some of these issues. because i'm perfectly happy to squee over the fun parts of CoS, but if they hurt my PoA, they're going to pay dearly. ::snarls fiercely::

on a more positive note: hello, fanon draco! see how repressed his is by his evil father? see how fucking beautiful he is in all black in flourish and blotts? see how entirely obsessed he is with our dear harry? see how he hovers in the background of every scene... wants so much to be a part, but never quite is? see how he flies really well but will never beat harry? see how in each new scene, your eye is drawn to his shiny white hair? (ok, well, maybe that's just me). but seriously, it is fanon draco. ::sigh::

why though, has no one addressed poor tom felton's speech impediment? slow down, boy! or something. he's so hard to understand when he gets worked up.

other points, good and bad:
- the spider scene was ridiculously and pointlessly long.
- percy's bedhead!!!
- the burrow was right on. too bad they didn't pick up more on ron's pride that harry liked it there.
- the end? hagrid? what?
- lockhart was perrrrrrfect. applause for kenneth branagh!
- ginny? there's a character called ginny?
- tom. problematically beautiful. like, oh my goodness, beautiful. i mean... ::drool::
- snape... wah! more snape!
- the annoying characters from the book (dobby, myrtle, lockhart) were surprisingly far less annoying in the movie. dobby actually made me laugh. as did myrtle. impressive. and lockhart, he just stole the show.
- not sure how i feel about the awkward ron/hermione moment at the end. a little foreshadowing never hurt anyone, i guess... but... hrm.

oh, i'm sure i have more to say, but

i need to get dressed and on the road. [livejournal.com profile] scottxwl, here we come! well, soon, anyway. *g*

and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] starbuckle for telling us to wait out the credits - we were almost the only people left in the theater (those are some long ass credits) but we saw it! so funny.
