dudes. it was a good night.

this post will have stories and pictures. videos will follow when youtube stops being SLOW AS FUCK.

eta: videos are here: part 1 and part 2.

so [livejournal.com profile] frog4 was an angel and got there around 3:30. srsly awesome. she got a great place in line and i got to show up an hour or so after her and join her. nice for me. dudes, i know it was to be expected but... everyone else in the line was little. or a little person's parent. and, as frog pointed out, many many of them were decked out in their clandestine gear. it was kind of adorable.

i went to get us tea and coffee and met therese, whose sparkly purple eyeliner revealed to me that she was headed the same place i was but who was clearly in my own age group. i invited her to join us. and thus began a lot of friendliness. therese joined us in line and then we ended up chatting with these totally adorable teenage girls and their mother (who really likes cobra herself). srs cuteness.

then we were joined by [livejournal.com profile] bloodygoodgirl and [livejournal.com profile] little_whittles (and later [livejournal.com profile] weird_one and [livejournal.com profile] packmentality. and later still, [livejournal.com profile] jillybinks). and we stood around and froze our asses off. the time on the tickets was 6, so we were all thinking the doors would open at 5 or so. nope. 6 was the door time. and it was cold. and i was wearing severely impractical shoes. but things could have been worse. for one thing, we were standing right next to the buses -

coloradans will recognize the denver skyline behind cobra starship's bus. standing there afforded us multiple glimpses of alex, the cab's lead singer. and also gabe and vicky t from a distance. alex is so little he totally blended in with the crowd in line.

and i kind of tripped him later, when it was finally time to go in. he was doing something with his phone -

and then walked out the door next to me and kind of stumbled. oops.

the marquis, where this all took place, has a 21+ section with a bar and that's where we headed. and we were among very few when we first got there. which gave us a great place to stand not too far from the stage or the bar and separated from the younguns by a handy barricade. also, the drinks were cheap and generous with the alcohol. thumbs up to the marquis.

there was a 5th band tonight. i didn't really catch their name... something something 1974. two guys from denver, i think. they were ok. pushing the energy a little hard when they came on... it was a bit freaky but they chilled as they went on.

and while we were watching them, [livejournal.com profile] little_whittles turned around to say to me, "just so you know, gabe is right behind you." and lo, he was.

i don't know what he was doing there. but then he signed things and took pictures with people and was tall. srsly tall. here he is with [livejournal.com profile] bloodygoodgirl -

and [livejournal.com profile] little_whittles -

gabe made his way backstage - giving time to a bunch more fans on the way, being really gracious with everyone.

and then the cab came on.

baby ray toro ian was so baby ray toro. i thought they were good. and young. the lead singer's voice is almost too nice, you know? it's almost a pop voice. but it could change, still. at this point he just kind of reminds me of a guy who sings in your high school choir. not to be down on them. i really enjoyed their set and they're impressively polished for such a young group.

here we are, post-cab set -

that's [livejournal.com profile] bloodygoodgirl, [livejournal.com profile] little_whittles, [livejournal.com profile] weird_one, [livejournal.com profile] packmentality, and me. i feel bad for [livejournal.com profile] packmentality because my camera took such weird pics of her. that's just... not what she looks like. she's about 6 times smaller than that. weird.

we the kings were up next. i was curious to see this weird hair everyone was talking about -

but it didn't seem all that weird, really. not very pretty, but not all that weird. i recognized the singer as the guy i'd seen earlier in the hallway outside the bathroom doing vocal warm ups (actual vocal warm ups not patrick stump sing-along-with-my-ipod-at-full-voice warm ups). i liked them a lot. the best of the openers. their songs were fun and danceable. more thumbs up.

i made some more friends -

that's [livejournal.com profile] carriboberry and friend. they were standing next to us. or sitting, at that moment. they were fun and [livejournal.com profile] carriboberry told me about the various metro station - hannah montana connections as they were coming on -

they were a little odd, imo. the guitarist was like a foul-mouthed, emo-haired muppet the way he bounced all over the place and had that giant, goofy grin. the crowd loved them, though, and it was more dancy fun, so i'm not complaining.

when they were done and we were waiting for cobra, [livejournal.com profile] little_whittles decided she would use her wily ways to get up to the stage. her experience pretty much shot my friendly audience theory. here she is upon returning from her failed attempt -

and here is the arm various teen-aged girls scratched the shit out of when she attempted to get past them -

and then! finally it was time for cobra starship. they were seriously fantastic and i will have more details about their set when i post some videos. but have some pics for now. . .

for the first three or so songs of the set, gabe wore these ridiculous, huge, dorky glasses. you can kind of see them here -

he did a lot of standing up on monitors (i assume, i couldn't see) and towering over the crowd. he also mentioned that it put him directly in the line of the ac. :)

the under 21 section of the marquis -

tested out my new camera's zoom/magnify on ryland. all the ryland and gabe banter was completely hilarious. i <3 them so much.

i'm not even sure i knew i was getting this picture when i took it. but it's totally my favorite. vicky t snuggles!

somehow, [livejournal.com profile] little_whittles managed to procure one of their sweaty towels after the show. i... dk.

alex came outside afterward and was sweet and signed things and posed for photos and such. he's really small. not short, just a compact little person.

i wanted a picture with him and i made [livejournal.com profile] bloodygoodgirl come with me. this makes me kind of giddily happy.

in conclusion, this was a fantastic show. i jumped around and screamed and sang and got all sweaty and it was exactly what i needed. and gabe saporta is all kinds of fabulousness. really, i'm having a hard time not just leaving it at ♥♥♥. he's just silly. they're all silly. (well for all i know, nate was entirely serious, i only got a brief glimpse of the top of his wee head.) and gabe's also a great singer. of all these crazy singers i'm <3ing right now, i'd say he has the best control over his voice - especially while dancing around etc. but, really, it's about the fun. they are so obviously having such a good time, it's impossible not to share in the glee. and there was so much glee to share. glee everywhere!

so, hopefully i will have videos to share tomorrow. if youtube is more cooperative.
