circe_tigana's link to what jkr says about neville and... huh.
well, it sort of clears up the question in my mind about just how tricky she is. the answer being: not very. i mean, there's no big secret there, things are pretty much exactly as she laid them out in OotP. i really hope there are still some kind of neville-based surprises remaining though, and that that doesn' t mean she'll stop making him as special and great as she has - now that she's declared his function as the everyman.
but what i'm thinking more about is the thing with lily. so... ok, clear this up for me? voldemort went to kill harry and lily jumped in his way and... what happened then? is it that both lily was killed and the spell rebounded, crippling voldemort? simultaneously? or... he killed her first but in throwing herself in the way, she left her protection lingering around harry. it's the latter, right? it just seems weird to me... well, both scenarios seem a bit weird to me.
also, why are there not a thousand fics about draco throwing himself in front of harry in a lily-like fashion, saving him and crippling voldie once again? not that i think that would be particularly in character, but, hi, have you read most of the h/d out there? and, you know, just because it's not in character doesn't mean i wouldn't want to read it.
really, if people could save each other by doing that... well, i guess the rarity is the whole point. but there's some beauty in the concept that after a person dies so you can live, you wear a scar for the rest of your life.
