I loved Sin City because I'm probley the only girl left in the comic scene and tend to take it a bit too far, but I can see why you wouldn't like it after what you said.
One must remember though, the original comic is from the brief period when all comics took a gritty turn towards the noir film style of earlier years. It was also back when comics had fallen out of trend, and all that was left to read them were hardcore fans, not surprisngly boys. More than likely the kind that wanted to imagine themselves as tough, and there to look out for the women (since, I doubt most of them had too many girlfriends). Remember this is the same crowd that voted for Robin to die after being nearly beaten to death by the Joker. They like the gritty.
So, in this context, the genre is not supposed to have the tough yet sensitive women of today's media (when us gals are lucky), it doesn't fit the nior style. Think of all the detective movies, the woman was always coming into the office crying over her dead husband. It's supposed to resonant with another time, when everybody had a running monologue.
I feel like part of me should be offended as woman, but my comic book geek side is in too much awe at how wonderfully adapted it was.
