it's driving me crazy that i'm so out of touch with my flist right now.  because who am i if i'm not the girl who reads and comments and recs etc?  who am i????

er.  yeah.

today:
-tortuously slow (in places) drive home from the boston area
-radical hair color by katie.  who called me behbeh the whole time i was there.  ok, it's not that radical.  but i went for highlights, which were very subtle last time.  and this time they are not at all subtle.  and i like them.
-some qt with the gf
-went to see garden state again.*
-went to 80s night with [livejournal.com profile] mmm_cake, [livejournal.com profile] starbuckle, her new roommie, and some of her softball friends.**

*i liked the movie even more this time.  the ending bothered me less this time.  and oh goodness but mark captivates me.  i mean, his character... it's so rich while so little is done with it.  i don't know if i fully appreciated last time that he had the 'bitch' seat on large's bike.  he is so, so in love with large and i wish i had the writing talent to tell his story as i feel it.

i also had some actually coherent thoughts about the things that bother me about the movie.  and this is one of those cases where the things that bother me only bother me because i love the movie so much that the imperfections really stand out.  and if it were of lesser quality, i wouldn't care so much.  i think the moment in the pool when he says that bit about family is pastede on yay.  i feel like it's a rather precious sentiment he had on the table and really wanted to include in the movie and so stuck it in there, out of context and without direct connection.  it's interesting as a point and rather poetic, but it doesn't fit in that place.  i'm also bothered by the hug after the large/sam kiss in the rain.  he has her in an uncomfortable-looking grip and turns outward to the camera as if suddenly we care only about him - and not sam.  she's supposed to fade to the background or something.  i find it a bit egocentric, that moment.  and the ending.  it bothered me less but it still bothered me.  there's a bit of the same thing going on there - sam fading too far to the background.

**we went at 10 only to discover that the joint doesn't really start jumpin' til 11 or so.  but there was still fun to be had.  the music was a little off tonight.  it picked up in the last hour or so.  cowboy didn't show, but in his place was quite the impressive (and by 'impresseive,' i mean hot) threesome of boys dancing in the middle of the floor.  and they didn't play my billy idol but they did play peter shilling's major tom.  if you know who peter schilling is, you are my automatic new favorite person.  it was the last song of the night and they clearly played it to clear the floor but dude, some of us love our weirdo 80s geeky tunes.
