I'm starting to think now that I should forget any plans I had to write a review of this movie and just point everyone on my flist in your direction, because your reactions almost exactly parallel mine, right down to the mixed feelings at the end of the film. There was a lot to love, but a lot that left me kind of cold as well (Thewlis's Lupin among them, alas). I'm going to see it again tomorrow afternoon, and I'm hoping I'll be able to look at it more objectively then--more as a film, and less as an adaptation. I'm going to try, at least.
