• experience conducting that choir


• experience conducting other choirs


• experience in choirs


• experience with very talented/famous soloists


• solid musical education


• a thorough understanding of the story the music is trying to tell (maybe not yet, but you will)


• talent that was professionally recogized when you were about 10


• the confidence of a pro who believes in you enough to put some of her reputation on the line

I realize that last one can cut both ways, but so be it. You also have a big cheering section - we may not all have musical credentials, but we're pulling hard for you.
