i would have been writing this post earlier, but i read
addictedkitten's entry this morning. yeah, so i've been here a while. ;)
i made 'breakfast rice' this morning. it was one of the three recipes from the cookbook that we opened to this week. this is fun stuff. to me anyway. we're writing our comments on the recipes too. hee. this week, we opened to breakfast rice, black bean spread and seitan veggie kabobs. the rice is cooked with a little oat bran and cinnamon in apple juice and water. it tastes like oatmeal. if i make it again, i'll use more apple juice and less water as it was on the bland side. it would be a good breakfast on a cold winter morning and it's a nice alternative to oatmeal - which i haven't been able to eat since watching a finnish movie. the black bean spread was good - we ate it as a dip for tortilla chips and as a spread on thin crust pizza. yes, it was nice but nothing we couldn't have come up with on our own. we haven't made the kabobs yet but i am a wee bit skeptical. about the seitan. ::eyes package suspiciously:: i have never been a great fan of seitan - it's a texture issue - but i've had it done well a few times. we'll see how it goes.
am listening to a recording of a coro allegro concert for which ruth cunningham was a soloist and i'm drooling all over the place. i want her voice! for me. all for me. and then i could sing to myself all the time and how great would that be? i suppose in the ultimate ideal world, i would have emma kirkby's voice. but, you know, i'm trying to be reasonable.
ok, must go think up some interview questions. you can still play, you know. just let me know if you want a wee interview.
