steamboat springs
i didn't actually do all that much with my spring break, other than hang around with scott and anney. but we did make a trip to steamboat springs, leaving on sunday and coming back on tuesday. and that was pretty great. it was about a three hour drive to get there - right up into the mountains. some gorgeous views. we stayed at this hotel thing that was more like a condo unit or something. and really large. with a kitchen and two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a huge living room. nice. we had a good time just hanging around and going to restaurants and natural food stores and walking around the town and drinking wine and watching s2 slings and arrows (god, i love that show. THIS MUCH.) but the best part of the trip was the hot springs at strawberry park. somehow we missed the part about 4 wheel drive or tire chains being required to drive there until we were in the thick of it. but rach, driver extraordinaire, got us there. we only had to stop and all get out of the car once. heh.
the hot springs were just so amazing. the water comes out of the ground at some absurd temperature like 140 F. and then it gets mixed into pools with more or less cool water so you can pick your temp. it was incredibly nice. and we swam around and sat around in bathing suits and towels and it did not feel like march in the rockies at all. thumbs up on the hot springs.
canada. which i dig.
and when we got into town after the springs, we went to a cute little diner. and i was wearing my 'canada. which i dig.' shirt and the waiter kept saying he liked it (anney had the pin on too but it's small and he didn't see it). rach finally asked him why he liked it so much and he tossed his canadian passport onto the table (he apparently keeps it in his back pocket. maybe chicks dig it?). then i asked him if he could help me remember the province capitals i was having a hard time remembering (pei, nunavut and new brunswick). he had no clue but he actually went and called his parents. they didn't know either. :) it was a good time for canada bonding.
television.
when we got back from steamboat, rach had to go back to work. bleh. anney and scott and i spent our days watching dr. who and due south and the season finale of bsg. which... YAY. yay for the show being amazing and wonderful again and yay for the things that unfolded. and i'm being vague so i don't have to cut for spoilers.
so, dr. who. we watched... 8 episodes? i think. (yes, ok, consulting an ep guide, i see we watched: rose, the end of the world, the unquiet dead, dalek, the empty child, the doctor dances, bad wolf and the parting of the ways.) i liked it. i love rose. i heart captain jack. i find the ninth doctor compelling and charming. i want to watch more. and torchwood.
and we watched victoria's secret and letting go and i can not even express in words how fantastic it is to watch with other people who love the show and the characters and care as much as i do. it was, indeed, like our very own mini-jamboree.
friends.
on friday we prepped for a party - cooking and cleaning most of the day. while we played s3 due south in the kitchen. :) the party was great. i <3 my friends.
i also miss my friends. the massachusetts folk, that is. having scott and anney here was fantastic. and it recalls to me just how close i am to them and to all those people i think of as my best friends. it's hard to be so far from them, much as i also love my friends here. it's just different. and i miss the parts i don't have.
and i miss being around fans. it's really, really hard. as shallow as that may seem. i think there's a whole other post here, though, so i'll cut it off. :)
and that was my spring break.
