Nov. 2nd, 2004 07:03 ami haven't talked here about the election much at all. partly because i have no enthusiasm to offer and i don't want my lack thereof to dampen anyone else's. the thing is, i don't like kerry. i never really have. i live here in massachusetts and i find him far too conservative. i was there in boston protesting his vote for the fucking war - something for which i can't forgive him.
but, really, that doesn't matter. i'm casting a protest vote this morning and i don't see anything wrong with that. well, except that third parties are likely to loose their places on the MA ballot after today and that's sad and wrong and one part of a generally fucked up system.
and i've discovered that i'm much more of a cynic than most of my friends in lj parts. i think kerry as president would lie to us. i think, in the right circumstances, he would take us into a war we shouldn't be fighting. i think all presidents have lied to us. the government of this country has always abused its power in the world and in this country.
but bush and his team have spent four years playing to the deepest, darkest fears of americans and using them as a source of support and power. and yes, it's as sinister and underhanded as that. bush is not an intelligent person. and i'm not referring only to the fact that he can't seem to put a sentence together without help, i'm using the term intelligence more holistically. he can't follow a thought through to its logical conclusion if that conclusion does not benefit him and his. he has taken rights away from the citizens of his own country. taken rights away.
so i'm voting against him and cheney and everything they've done. and the only way to do that is to vote for someone else i don't like, but who is no worse than any other president i've lived though.
this morning i'll vote for john kerry. and i honestly hope you will too.
