uoh. i'm being a lOOser. heh. that looks weird. i have to finish up my program notes before i go to sleep and i'm just slacking. i don't wanna! bleh. it's not even like it'll be that hard, i just have managed to put it off until now... and i can't put it off anymore.

though, i did take the time to read that article from bitch magazine that [livejournal.com profile] ivyblossom linked. wow. amazingly positive. i mean, i know slash is great but i don't really expect everyone to agree with me. publicly. yeah, but i share the fears that it will become too high profile and thus a) could be targeted by the evil media corporations who own rights to all our beloved characters b) somehow lose its subculture-ish edge.

i'm getting more money in my tax refund for last year than i actually paid in taxes. neat, huh? it all has to do with my having been in school last year and earned income credit and whatever all i know is i'm getting some $$$. woot.

::cracks whip:: write the stupid notes!!!!!
phineasjones: (bananaman)
ok. now i've done all the easy parts of the program. the text, the list of musicians, the thank yous. only the stinky part left. lalala. don't make me! pleeeeeeease?

god, this should be so easy. why am i so resistant?

i'm looking at my notes for the faure requiem from last year's music service. they're brilliant! how did i do it? i can't possibly live up to that. no point it trying. here's what i'll say:

mozart was born in 1756 and in 1779 he was in salzburg where he had a meanie boss and he was bored and underappreciated at his church job. the boss only wanted mass to last for 45 minutes, so mozart had to write short pieces. that's why this mass isn't very long. this particular mass is very nice. it's called the coronation mass. no one really knows why, but people like to make up theories. it doesn't really matter but i figured i would include that for those of you who need simple tales in small words to make this experience worthwhile. mozart thought this was a good bit of work himself and he even reused some of the music in the marriage of figaro. (don't worry, people did that a lot back then, no big deal) [edit] and then, in 1791, he died.

great. that's a print.

damn. [livejournal.com profile] silviakundera is going to bear [livejournal.com profile] ivyblossom's children. ::sigh::

::gets in line::
phineasjones: (huh?)
i'm done. just now. do you think i could have cut it a little closer if i really tried? i just have time to munch some cereal and switch from pyjamas to jeans and then i head to the church.

writing program notes is harder than it should be. you have to try to pick out the tidbits that will be interesting to people who know something about music as well as people who don't. I like when the notes provide a little guide through the piece for those who might not otherwise know what to look for... but it's really hard to keep to the surface... not to throw in words that are standard when you've been writing music papers for years but that many people wouldn't know. and once you limit yourself like that... it's hard not be really boring. alas, we do what we can.

off to churchity church.

can someone be bad at napping? because i think i am. i don't sleep well when i go down for a nap. sad, but true. and so i'm still not feeling terribly well rested. it's such good resting weather out there too - completely grey and rainy. it's good for being indoors and sleepy. yes.

[livejournal.com profile] harrimad_sol? you're still coming tomorrow, right? i hope you don't mind a disastrously messy house.

i need to get lots and lots of sleep tonight. i'm a little nervous about tomorrow morning's dress rehearsal... i just want to do well conducting a group that includes professional musicians and another conductor. must study score some more tonight. yes.

wow. i can barely muster the will to type. maybe i'll just go read for a while. like, a book. novel concept. hahaha. novel concept. hahaha. i'm funny. oy.
