aaannnnyway. as predicted, the second half of yesterday was better than the first. it involved extremely good food and fun family time, many presents for rach and for my dad. when my parents left, rach and i watched ghost world. that's one hell of a good movie, that is.

busy day. much as i'd like to play around on lj for hours, it seems more likely i'll barely be on. sad times. but tonight is yet more celebrating of rach's birthday - this time with monkey and camillafarfalla. i have to make a cake. possibly maybe a marble vegan cheesecake. we'll see about that.

i hope i get some good time for dancing around the house to the ttt soundtrack, bc i think that is most of what's responsible for my improved mood yesterday.

and hey, where's my GoF? i need to do a little research and i can't find it.... this is not good. oh, and speaking of... gary oldman as sirius? but he's so old. and so not... not... sirius-like. hrmph. i'm never going to be satisfied, am i? i shudder to think who will be playing lupin. what will i do if that role is badly cast? i'll have to put on blinders and earmuffs and crawl into a dark closet and stay there for years until all possibility of encountering the movie has passed. yeah, that's a plan.

listened to this american life as i drove home this afternoon with judy. we both sat in the car for about 20 minutes when we got home so we could listen to the end. i don't even know what to say. i mean... i am filled with all sorts of horrible, negative, incredulous feelings about this place where i live. this country. ugh. and i have about the lowest expectations possible for bush and his people... but i can still be shocked and saddened.

in cheerier news, youssou n'dour's new album is playing in the other room, sushi rice is cooking, my new fountain is making soothing water noises, camillafarfalla is coming over in a while... these are all very very good things. and rach is 25. has been for a few days now, but why stop celebrating?

this is a really fabulous album.

camilla and i had utterly ridiculous arguments yesterday about lotr and slash and movie!eowyn. she's so wrong about both things, it's startling. she made the silliest anti-lotr slash argument i've heard yet - comparing the fellowship to the delightful friendships of the cast members of the movies... about whom she reads copious amounts of slash. ? and then tried to argue against frodo/sam by arguing that legolas/gimli is more canonical. um... ? yes, also she compared miranda's eowyn to movie!ginny weasley. no. no. and also, no. nononono. ::kisses miranda::
