Having it written down helps, I find! In fact, that's the one thing I find really valuable about the GTD system: the notion that once something's written down you can stop worrying about whether you'll forget about it. The GTD dude (whatever his name is, I don't know) advocates making a huge list of everything that you have to do and tasks that are outstanding, and adding to it whenever something occurs to you, and that way you know you've got it on the list and you don't have to think about it. I find it works very well for me—as long as I commit to working through it, the way you are.
