the to do list! it haunts me. it follows me from room to room and up into the bedroom where it dances around in my dreams. i'm so tired of transferring un-done items from one day's list to the next. if i could just finish one, the next day's would seem so manageable.

among the things we did yesterday...
-went to another church. we both like this one much better. the location is central and urban. the church looks like a church - a problem for me out here - in that it's made of stone and has stained glass and is generally attractive, unlike many of the concrete, box-like monstrosities out here. the congregation was made up of a much greater mix of ages and a lot of them were pretty clearly gay. they were all white (except for the many adopted asian children), which ain't great but it's an issue for the uu church in general. the sermon wasn't thrilling but it wasn't the snoozefest that the one we heard last week was. the music... sucked. but the music director is leaving next week so maybe that's looking up. we'll go back there again, methinks.

-we finally made the living room into a place we want to hang out. we hung things on the walls and cleaned up the riff raff that was all over the place and rearranged the furniture. and now it's soooo nice in there.

-so nice that we were almost sad to go through with our planned cookout for the evening. we bought our landlord's grill off her when we moved in - a good deal, since she hadn't used it once. it's a gas grill, which scares the pants off me but luckily, we had help setting it up. rach's friend from school, rick, moved to denver a few weeks before we did and he came over last night with his friend carrie (really sweet, i hope we see more of both of them) and they were brave little fire-starters. our backyard katie joined us and brought three friends of hers. one of them went to hampshire for a year and lived in noho and used to work with someone i used to work with. small world, man.

so yeah, it was good to be social, certainly, but now the LIST! i must go start on it straight away. if i finish today's list today, i think i deserve prizes. maybe chocolate ones.

Was that the UU church in Capitol Hill you went to? I've been to the one in south Denver, like down by the Hampden exit, and it was alright, but nothing like I used to back in Mass. I liked their broad-ranging social action works, but the congregation was mostly older and I wasn't inspired to go back. There's a UU church in Boulder but it's a bit too granola for me, so I might have to visit the other one in Denver.

yeah, it was the capitol hill one. last week we went to that one in south denver and had the exact same impression you did. also, we were bored stiff. and i kind of expected the boulder one to be too granola. :)

i just came from a 4-year run as a choir director at a uu church near boston. and i really loved it. the church wasn't perfect but it was a great place to be - really welcoming with great people. church-going while not employed there is new for me, but i'm giving it a shot.

and i'd recommend trying the cap hill one. it's always hard in the summers when people are away and it's not the regular minister, etc. but i still think it was a pretty good service.
