phineasjones: (i choose you)
i just read this little clip in bust magazine about texas' law against sex toys. a woman is facing a year in jail and a $4,000 fine for selling vibrators to undercover cops and explaining how to use them. if she'd sold them as 'novelties,' she would have been ok but texas has a law "that prohibits selling a device used 'primarily for the stimulation of the human genital organs.'" the absurdity of this is so... absurd, i just don't know what to say.

i'm getting my hair cut today. yay! i was going to have it colored too but i've decided i have to have a source of income before i'm allowed to spend that kind of money on my hair.

oh, and i'm sure you're all dying to know what i did with myself last night after the poll and all. well, the poll told me:
1. read, like, a real book 12
2. watch northern exposure 6
2. drink 6
3. read slash 5
4. work on sirius/remus mega mix 4
5. watch angel or buffy (2 each)
5. get on aim 2
6. firefly 1
7. others:
-OMG TURN ON MTV HOBBITS!!!11 ([livejournal.com profile] camillafarfalla)
-and hmmm... [livejournal.com profile] mmm_cake selected other but does not seem to have commented. perhaps it is a secret.

what i actually did:
-watched northern exposure
-drank (not much, a bubbly vodka drink and a beer)
-read slash
-read not even a whole chapter of a book before i fell asleep.

i am such a party animal.

the slash i read was a bunch of s/r, none of which was all that exciting to me. except [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's always like this. that was cute and fun and deserves a rec. also, there was pru's levity series which i recognize as good but really just don't like. not one bit. reading it makes me miserable. even while i can appreciate that it's well written. so, there's that. the others weren't worth mention.

thanks for telling me what to do. sometimes that's a good thing. :)

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool said, Brighid... said some lovely things about people on her flist this morning, and asked that we pay it forward if we were reading.

and i was reading, so i pay it forward. 10 friends, chosen at random:

[livejournal.com profile] fearlessdiva. where to start? diva is witty, eloquent, helpful and generous. and many other wonderful things.

[livejournal.com profile] starbuckle! again, where to start? this is random, i swear it is! i just happen to have clicked on people i've met in person. or live .74 miles away from in this case. jenny is smart and funny and makes a good fire in the grill. she's sweet and open to everyone. she kicks softball ass! and, oh yeah, she's a great friend.

[livejournal.com profile] kitsune13. again with the clever. more than clever, really. i suspect catja is actually brilliant.

[livejournal.com profile] jacito's writing is gorgeous. her drabbles are art. she has great taste in music and i drool over her icons.

[livejournal.com profile] ceresi blinked onto my radar when she wrote one of my all time favorite hp fics. it's perfect and i adore her for writing it. (oh, right, you want a link.)

[livejournal.com profile] powerfulkatrina is never on lj anymore. but it doesn't mean i don't adore her and wacky monkey ways.

[livejournal.com profile] ivyblossom is also rarely to be found around these parts lately. alas for us. but her writing is the major reason i ever got into hp fandom. and for this i am most grateful.

[livejournal.com profile] holdenrevisited is the sweetest evah! she loves the kitties and is a great cook. and amuses me with tales of work and home and everything.

[livejournal.com profile] zionsstarfish is one of my favorite fanfic authors. her writing is everything i want it to be - sparse and quiet and understated but brimming with emotion. and sometimes really, really funny.

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool! hee, look at that. full circle. or something. victoria... i trust her writing of sirius/remus. this is a huge thing, not something i can say for many authors. i love how deeply she cares about them and thinks about them and it shows in her writing.

and there is more to love about all of them and about everyone else on my flist of course. but there's some love to share.

and now i have to get moving to eat lunch and get to my haircut. ::runs::
phineasjones: (love)
[livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor wants your thoughts on harry/snape stories and what works for you. go fill out her poll.

i've had the loveliest afternoon. i walked to my haircut. katie cut my hair. it's all shortish again. i like it. than i walked into town. got myself a smoothie (above and beyond. mmm.) and sat in the park betaing jj's story and writing some snape!thoughts. and then meandered home. it may very well be the most gorgeous day ever. maybe i'll go back outside. or shower to get all the hair bits off me.

i had to work really hard not to sob like a little baby while reading [livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor's story in the park. for reasons i will explain after she posts the story, this particular post-OotP sirius/remus touches me more deeply than any other. it's all quiet and unassuming. but it kills me.
phineasjones: (friendshipper)
also today i got a new pair of fake glasses. i love the fake glasses! something that i believe annoys a certain bespectacled friend of mine and amuses others. my old ones have thick tortoise shell frames. these new ones are smaller with black frames and i'm never going to take them off! i ♥ them. hee.

my audition for the chorus that will sing the lotr symphony is next week. and i can't figure out what to sing. hmph. i used to always sing the willow aria from the ballad of baby doe for auditions but i don't think that's a good idea. because it doesn't show me off as a choral singer so much. it's in english, the tune is simple, i use about as much vibrato as i have... the only thing that works to my advantage (chorally) is that it has a high d and thus shows off the range.

so, what to sing? something from messiah? probably overdone but at least the accompanist would know it. [livejournal.com profile] annelarissa! help!
